After several years of discussion and planning, the beginning of the development of what is to be called "Old Armenian Town" in the heart of downtown Fresno has begun. Scheduled to be completed in the Summer of 2007, the Fifth Appellate District Court of Appeals is the first of several phases of the City of Fresno's Downtown Redevelopment Agency's Vision 2010 Plan.
In the block bounded by Ventura Avenue, "M" and "O" streets, and Freeway Route 41, is a 10 acre master planned development providing a gateway to downtown. The project will include:
- The Armenian Cultural (Community) Center
- Retail Shops and Restaurants
- 700,000 Square Feet of mixed use office space
- Pedestrian Plaza
- Parking Facility
- Fifth Appellate District Court of Appeals
While the project is still in its initial phases, the hopes of reviving an area of downtown that was once thriving with Armenian immigrants is in the hearts and minds of many of our center's members, patrons, and supporters.
